MONASTERIES

Monastery of Agios Raphael. A nunnery founded and run in honour of Saint Raphael. It is one of the most important places of pilgrimage on the island.

Taxiarchis Michail Monastery. Byzantine monastery built very close to the town of Mandamados.

Limonos Monastery - Saint Ignatios. The Katholikon (main church) is an impressive three-aisled basilica, with a wooden-carved gilded templon and 17th Century icon mural paintings.

Panagia Mirsiniotissa Monastery. Byzantine monastery, with priceless icons, old wooden-carved templon and significant murals.

Perivoli Monastery. A Byzantine nunnery, with interesting icons on the wooden-carved templon and murals (16th Century).

Monastery of Pithariou. Byzantine monastery with priceless icons, sacred vessels and murals.

Monastery of Ypsilos. Of medieval origin. The Katholikon (main church) is known for its icon paintings, while it also houses priceless sacred vessels.

Monastery of Damandrios. Byzantine Monastery dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with wonderful Byzantine icon paintings and notable sacred vessels.
